The Role

At United Utilities, water is essential to everyday life, and so are the people who keep it flowing. We're looking for a Flexi Skilled Electrical Field Service Engineer to join our Shell Green team, helping to maintain and improve the electrical, instrumentation, and control assets that support critical wastewater operations across the North West.

This is a varied field based role that combines electrical expertise, fault diagnosis, instrumentation, and control system maintenance across some of the region's most critical infrastructure. You'll work with a broad range of electrical, telemetry, and control assets, helping to keep key operational processes running safely, efficiently, and reliably while developing your expertise across increasingly advanced technologies.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Carry out planned maintenance, respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults, and deliver effective engineering solutions across a diverse electrical asset base.
  • Install, commission, maintain, and repair electrical, instrumentation, telemetry, and control equipment, including motors, control panels, sensors, and associated systems.
  • Work closely with operational teams, contractors, and engineering colleagues to deliver maintenance activities, asset improvements, and network resilience initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, efficiency, and performance through proactive maintenance, continuous improvement, and high quality engineering solutions.
  • Plan and manage your workload across multiple sites, providing a responsive and customer focused engineering service while maintaining accurate maintenance records and asset data.
  • Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance in everything you do.

What You'll Bring

  • A completed electrical apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong electrical maintenance experience within utilities, manufacturing, industrial, process, or other operational environments.
  • Excellent fault finding, diagnostic, and problem solving skills across electrical systems, control equipment, instrumentation, and telemetry assets.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and build positive relationships with colleagues, contractors, and operational teams.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with a focus on continuous improvement and delivering high quality outcomes.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Benefits

This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise across a wide range of electrical, instrumentation, and control technologies that underpin one of the UK's largest wastewater networks.

You'll gain exposure to everything from power distribution and motor control through to telemetry, automation, and process control systems, building experience that extends far beyond a traditional electrical maintenance role. Working across multiple sites and asset types, you'll have the chance to broaden your technical capability, strengthen your fault finding expertise, and develop a deeper understanding of how complex operational systems work together.

With the autonomy of a field based role and the support of an experienced engineering team, you'll be trusted to solve problems, improve asset performance, and contribute to the reliability of critical infrastructure serving millions of customers.

Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge of electrical systems, develop your experience with control and automation technologies, or take the next step in your engineering career, this role offers the variety, responsibility, and development opportunities to help you achieve your goals.
